PRS Shot Timer is a microphone-based shot timer for precision rifle shooting. It runs a stage against a long par, scores it by impacts, records video with a burned-in timer overlay, and can show rifle cant and muzzle velocity from supported Bluetooth accessories. This page covers the questions that come up most.
Detection is controlled by two settings on the timer screen:
Also check that microphone permission is granted — on iOS, Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone; on Android, Settings → Apps → PRS Shot Timer → Permissions. Keep the phone out of direct wind, and near enough to the shooter that the muzzle blast dominates.
Raise TRIG first, then CONFIRM. Muzzle brakes, neighbouring firing points and impacts on nearby steel are the usual culprits. Two shots closer together than 150 ms are treated as one event, so ring-down and echo off a berm generally will not double-count.
Works — drop TRIG far enough that a firing-pin click or a sharp tap registers. Indoors you will usually also want a lower CONFIRM.
A stage is one countdown, not a beep sequence. Par can be set up to 5 minutes, which covers the 90–120 s stages most matches run. The clock counts down by default, because that is the number you actually want mid-stage.
Every shot starts as an impact. You mark the misses, not the hits — in a discipline where most shots hit, that is far less tapping. Three scoring modes are available per stage: one point per impact, a first-round bonus (2 for a first-round impact on a target, 1 for a later one), and a plain hits-only count with no points.
Targets are a list with a label and, optionally, a distance. Shots are assigned to targets automatically — staying on a target until it is impacted, then moving on — and you can reassign any shot by tapping its target chip. A manual assignment stays put.
Record a run and the app writes the video and its audio to the phone. In review you can scrub, step frame by frame, add or delete a shot at the playhead, set the beep position, and re-run detection against the recording — useful when conditions on the day were not what TRIG was set for.
Exporting burns the overlay into the file. This is real video encoding, so it is not instantaneous: expect roughly two to three times the length of the clip on a modern phone. Keep the app in the foreground while it runs.
The app supports two Bluetooth accessories:
Pair them from the DEVICES screen. Where a device shows COMING SOON, it has not been released yet; the screen has a follow link for the announcement. The rest of the app works exactly the same without any accessory connected — cant and velocity simply do not appear.
The app follows your phone's language and ships in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Czech, Polish, Swedish and Finnish. You can pick a different one — including English on a non-English phone — during the first-run intro, or later from the language row in the practice sheet.
The watch app is a remote for the timer: start and stop a stage from your wrist without touching the phone. It needs the phone app running and the two paired as normal.
The app holds the screen awake during a stage so the start beep is not cut off and timing stays accurate. Lock the phone manually if you want it off.
Continuous microphone use, and especially video recording, drain the battery faster than typical app use. Video is also the bulk of what the app stores — a long stage can be a few hundred megabytes. Delete runs you no longer need from the runs list; that removes the video, audio and telemetry with them.
No accounts, no servers, no analytics. Everything stays on your device unless you export or share it. Full detail — including what is recorded when you film a run — is in the Privacy Policy.
